Associate James Philippsohn comments on the FCA’s censure of CACEIS UK, in Investment Week

June 26, 2026

Associate James Philippsohn comments on the Financial Conduct Authority’s decision to censure CACEIS UK and secure a £31.7 million voluntary payment for affected WealthTek clients, and what the latest enforcement action signals for financial crime controls and regulatory expectations across the financial services industry.

“This is now the third enforcement action arising from WealthTek’s collapse, and the pattern is telling: like Sapia before it, CACEIS UK saw clear warning signs on the Financial Services Register and failed to act on them.

“The FCA’s decision to accept a £31.7m voluntary payment (of which the vast majority will be channelled by administrators) in place of a £23m+ fine sends a clear signal that full cooperation and meaningful compensation to victims will be rewarded over contesting the case.

“The real test now is whether this enforcement sweep changes behaviour across the custody industry, where compliance teams routinely face the same choice CACEIS UK got wrong.”

James’ comments were published in Investment Week, 25 June 2026.
